Protecting the Sacred, Honoring the Ancestors, Telling True Stories
Introduction
At Axumwe, storytelling is not just branding—it is a sacred economic practice rooted in the traditions of the Axumite kingdom and Africa’s broader oral and visual legacy. This Code of Conduct ensures that all storytelling—through product listings, media, visuals, brand language, and customer interaction—aligns with cultural integrity, truth, and ancestral respect.
1. Foundational Principles
- Ancestral Accuracy: Represent cultural stories, names, rituals, and artifacts accurately and respectfully.
- Consent and Attribution: Stories, proverbs, designs, and expressions from specific communities must only be used with permission or proper acknowledgment.
- No Exploitation: Cultural storytelling is never to be used for shock value, exoticism, or profit alone.
2. Brand-Aligned Storytelling Expectations
Vendors and creators on Axumwe must:
- Use true stories, not fictionalized versions of sacred traditions, unless clearly labeled as imaginative or inspired.
- Avoid generic or flattened portrayals of “African” culture. Instead, cite specific regions, tribes, or lineages where appropriate.
- Reflect Axumwe’s brand voice—ancestral, celebratory, wise, lyrical, and respectful.
- Utilize proverbs, metaphors, and imagery that reflect the spiritual and economic dignity of trade in African tradition.
3. What Is Not Allowed
- Appropriating spiritual symbols for commercial gain without meaning or permission.
- Using sacred traditions (e.g., initiation rites, ancestral ceremonies) for humor, trend-jacking, or superficial aesthetic.
- Misrepresenting cultures by using inaccurate photos, stories, or languages.
4. Creative Rights and Content Authenticity
- Vendors retain rights to their own stories and designs, but must not infringe on the intellectual property of communities or others.
- Axumwe reserves the right to request edits, take down misleading narratives, and restrict vendors violating this policy.
5. Afrofuturism, Regeneration & Innovation
- We welcome Afrofuturist storytelling, speculative design, and spiritual innovation—as long as they build from truth, community contribution, and cultural honoring.
- Innovation must be in dialogue with ancestral wisdom.
6. Community Review and Moderation
- Axumwe may assemble an Elders Council (community advisory group) to guide sensitive content decisions.
- Vendors are encouraged to consult Axumwe staff before publishing high-stakes cultural content.
7. In Closing
With every tale told, we plant a seed for Africa’s regeneration. Let the markets echo with wisdom. Let every listing be a libation poured in honor of our roots.
